PictureIcelandic cafe decor. These are color coordinated books that look cool, but the books have been cut away about 3 inches from the spine so that they can be displayed. The bookshelves don't need to be full sized this way, but the books are unreadable.

This is a super quirky sci fi story that elegantly and subtly builds a world in which AI has a unique role in the live of families and children in particular.  The world unfolds slowly and without a direct setup.  In some ways it felt like joining a series two or three books in in that the author writes in a way as if you had all the background information you need to understand what is happening.  You can pick up on them, but only in passing and the overall structure never really makes sense.  This style left me unsatisfied to a large degree, as I tried to fill in the gaps to make it make sense, but was unsuccessful. I was left with too many unanswered questions to really enjoy it, even though it was certainly intriguing.

Arrogant, sexy firefighter comes to the aid of the neurotic new woman in town who is afraid of bridges and basically everything.  Spoiler alert, he solves all the problems with his tough love approach.  Nope.

After a pretty rough patch, finally this little romance had something fun to offer.  The premise, where two strangers accidently switch cell phones at the airport, resulting in the entanglement of their two lives.  Funny, upbeat, and quick paced.

It isn’t common to have a book about a circle of middle aged women friends celebrating the engagement of one of them, so the premise of this book peaked my interest when it was offered as a free Audible book.  Because the women are more acquaintances that close friends, the story unfolds as they get to know each better over the course of the book.  One of the things I liked was how each of them reflected on each other’s relationships, well as their own, and for some that meant a new appreciation for their partners or singleness, while others opted for major shifts in their lives.  It isn’t a recommend, but it isn’t not recommended either.

Why is the best-friend who has been here the whole time romance, if only the other best-friend would open their eyes and see what is right in front of them story so overdone?  Is it too much to ask for a steamy romance with some substance, with some type of plot development that is unique or takes an unexpected turn?  I have been on a particularly long roll of bad ones this year.  Ugh.

Just no.  I don't even know where to start.  No plot or set-up, a romance where the people have nothing in common but nevertheless want to get married about 36 hours, the smut is completely dodged, and everything is just too idyllic in that creepy town.  I don't think I could have finished it if it had been a full-length book.

This is another YA romance from the author of The Stand-In, which I loved.  Even knowing very little about K-Pop, I still found this book to be fun and it kept my attention as the plot unfolded.  If you are looking for a light beach read that bring the romance without the sex scenes, this is a sweet little book you might like.

YA romance-light in a magical world that doesn't exactly hold together if you think about it too much.  The premise, that the main character has a gift where she can see someone's true love, their soul mate was just kind of weird and the lessons from that were trite and obvious.

Score no points for taking someone who is prudish and having her say “bad” words so others can make fun of her naïve.  I just don’t have anything nice to say about this one since the entire premise of someone uncomfortable talking about sex or swearing starting a podcast to is practice that is pretty stupid and then she just brings that innocence to the rest of her life in such a ridiculously simple way.
