 Icelandic cafe decor. These are color coordinated books that look cool, but the books have been cut away about 3 inches from the spine so that they can be displayed. The bookshelves don't need to be full sized this way, but the books are unreadable.

 Peter Levine. 1997. This text about trauma is quite outdated at this point. It was still interesting and had some exercising that are still relevant, but overall I would skip this in favor of the more recently updated trauma books out there.
Not recommended.  Avery Flynn. 2018. Another mediocre storyline, entertaining enough as a mindless romance, but nothing particularly memorable or fabulous here.
Not recommended.  Maxine Morrey. 2021. Hit by a bus while on her phone, the busy career driven protagonist reassesses her life, including reconnecting with her absolutely perfect ex-boyfriend, whom she did not appreciate while she was so focused on her job. So generic and trite. Ugh.
Not recommended.  Penny Reid. 2014. Another of the knitting series I have been reading the past few weeks, this one is not bad. It was going fairly well until we got to the part where of course the new guy in her life and her brothers need to step in to "protect" her from the father. It was better than tolerable until that point, but went downhill from there.
Not recommended.  Nathanial Hawthorne. 1851. I I am not at all sure why decided to read this. Nathanial Hawthorne has to be one of my least favorite authors. I hated The Scarlet Letter in high school. But for some reason I thought a Gothic romance horror novel was a great idea, just because it was free. It was not. The next time that I decide to read a classic, I am going to think twice.
Not recommended.  Alexis Daria. 2021. Kind of a grown up Cemetery Boys meets Encanto, the fantastical world here doesn't erase the dysfunction of families, but maybe because this story is so short, we don't really ever get to the complexity of that and it ends up feeling superficial on every level.
Not recommended.  Walter Tevis. 1983. I really enjoyed the Netflix show, so I went back and read the book it was based on. It is dark, full of trauma and the harm done to kids by adults who don't care about them. The book addresses the misogyny experienced by this brilliant woman, but also the complexity of her relationship with her neglectful adoptive mother, whose own addiction mirrored the protagonists.
Recommend.  Leonie Mack. 2021. Sometimes it is fun to see a little later-in-life romance like this one. Mom falls for her daughter's music teacher. Set against the backdrop of a student trip to Italy, there are some cute moments and banter, but not much beyond that.
Not recommended.  Jessica Redland. 2020. Sweet little Christmas romance-light story. I liked the side story about hiring your incompetent sister and how that played out. Not a bad short read to start off the holiday season.
