![]() This started out fine, with the fast plot set up in the expected way of the kind of trashy romance that I appreciate and enjoy. We meet a large family of characters, there is the setup of a neuroscience experiment to see if a romantic match can be determined with science. Of course, there is drama and whatnot as the story starts to take off. And then, not until chapter 6, all of the characters start praying. Although it was introduced early that one of the sisters runs a church with her husband, I kind of glossed over that until by the end of the book, every story threat was a parable about marriage, commitment, and putting in the hard work (and the prayer) to make your marriage work. If only you pray, communicate your feelings, and recommit yourself to the marriage, you can get through everything. Then shocking twist ending (SPOILER ALERT) is that you can also make peace with not having a husband right now and just using the time until he comes into your life to make yourself a better person. By the end of the book, I was fed up. Every loose end was tied up with a ridiculous, superficial lesson. None of the fun character development we saw in the first few characters continued. It all just fizzles out to nothing. Plus, there was exactly zero romance, not even one steamy kiss. Nada. Do not recommend. |
